The power of consistency – Our top five tips

The power of consistency – Our top five tips

The famous Joseph Pilates quote “You will feel better in ten sessions, look better in twenty sessions, and have a completely new body in thirty sessions” highlights the power of a regular Pilates practice.  In today’s fast-paced world, staying consistent can be a real challenge!

Here are our top five tips to maintaining a solid Pilates practice.

  1. Set a weekly schedule

Include your Pilates practice in your weekly planning. Having a realistic understanding of how many classes will be achievable for each week, and scheduling this time in advance can be a real game changer. Whether you can fit in a 45 minute or a 15 minute class, showing up for yourself and staying consistent is the key to long lasting change. The best bit? We now have a calendar feature in the YR app, allowing you to select your classes in advance, easily planning for the week ahead.

  1. Spice it up!

Variety in your routine is not only beneficial to your physical practice, but also a great motivator to stay consistent. This can be achieved simply by trying a class style you may not usually select, adding in props or trying a class with a different YR instructor.

  1. Set mini goals

Key word here is mini! Whether its working your way through the YR challenges, taking different spring options, or working yourself up to more challenging class styles and exercises, ensure your goals are realistic to your current self and celebrate your progress along the way.

  1. Visualise your success

Mind-body connection is a big focus in our Pilates practice and using visualisation can be a powerful motivator to remain consistent throughout your week. Keeping a journal is another great way to track your achievements, goals, and progress, and stands as a great motivator for consistency as a self-reflection tool.

  1. Embrace adaptability

Life is often unpredictable and the reality of any routine or schedule is that things will from time to time disrupt it. The key to maintaining consistency is to embrace adaptability. If you miss a session, let it be just that, and pick up your routine from the next one! Consistency is not perfection, and having a flexible mindset will keep you on track and moving forward no matter what pops up along the way.
