Same workout. Same effort. Same commitment you've always brought. But somewhere along the way, it stopped giving back what it used to, and nobody mentioned that might happen.
If that sounds familiar, you're far from alone. So we went straight to the source and asked over 1,000 women about exercise in midlife. Here's what they told us, and what training for the body you have now actually looks like.
Is it just me?
No. Not even close.
79% of the women we asked say the same physical results now take more effort than they did in their twenties and early thirties. 66% say the exercise that used to work no longer feels as effective.
For most, the shift arrived quietly. On average, women first noticed their relationship with exercise changing at around 41. And among those who noticed a change, 71% report lower energy and 51% report more pain, niggles or injuries.
None of that is a lack of discipline. It's a body that's changing, being asked to follow a plan that isn't.
So why has no one said anything?
That's the part that surprised us most.
75% of women told us no one has ever clearly explained how midlife body changes may affect the way they should exercise. 65% say mainstream fitness advice doesn't reflect the needs of women at their stage of life.
You're not doing it wrong. The advice was simply never written for you.
And the appetite for better guidance is there. 76% say they would exercise differently if they knew what was right for their body now.
What does training for the body you have now look like?
Start with strength. 71% of the women we asked rate strength training as very or extremely important, yet only 12% feel very confident doing it. That gap between knowing and doing is exactly where most of us get stuck.
Reformer Pilates closes it. Spring-based resistance lets you build real strength without heavy loads or high impact. The carriage supports you while you move, so you can focus on form and control rather than guesswork. And because the springs adjust, every session can meet your energy where it is today, whether that's a strong morning or a slower, more restorative evening.
Then make it easy to keep going. When we asked what would make consistency easier, the number one answer was exercising at home. No commute, no booking, no timetable. Just a session that fits around your life rather than the other way around.

"But what if I don't know what I'm doing?"
It's the most common hesitation we hear, and a fair one. If no one has explained how to train in midlife, walking into it alone can feel daunting.
That's why guidance is built in. The On-Demand Library means you're never left guessing: follow along, start where you are and progress at your own pace. On days your body asks for something gentler, choose a gentler session. That isn't quitting. It's adapting, and it's how consistency actually lasts.
